Air Force One Publicity Shots Blocked

Remember that Air Force One photo-op that took place over lower Manhattan? You know, the one that left thousands of New Yorkers running out of their office buildings in a panic? The one that cost taxpayers more than $328,000?

Well according to the New York Post, you won't get to see a single one of those photos, despite the fact that they were intended to be publicity shots. The White House says, "We have no plans to release them."

So the White House won't release publicity shots of Air Force One, but it will release top-secret photographs of CIA interrogations? Photographs that could seriously undermine American national security?

I wonder when the ACLU will get on this case and demand that the administration release these photos immediately.

Reid's Ramblings

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid made an appearance on the "TODAY" show Tuesday morning, where he discussed the type of person he'd like to see fill that vacancy on the Supreme Court:

SENATE MAJORITY LEADER HARRY REID, D-NEV.: Well, I personally would like to see us get away from you have to be a judge to be a Supreme Court justice.

LIBERAL TRANSLATION: Personally, I'm hoping the president takes Arlen Specter off my hands...

REID: I think it would be good if we could get a governor. We could get a senator or former senator.

LIBERAL TRANSLATION: Me! Me! Me!

REID: People with some real-life experiences for a while rather than people who walk around with these black robes all the time.

LIBERAL TRANSLATION: And who has a more diverse set of life experiences than a guy who's been in Congress for 26 years?!

MATT LAUER, HOST, "TODAY": Is this a situation where a white male need not apply?

REID: I don't think so. I think that President Obama who's been a professor of law, he has been in the Senate, he's served in state government, he really understands what the law's all about and what the Supreme Court's all about. I feel comfortable that his choice will be as good as his Cabinet selection.

LIBERAL TRANSLATION: If the president's nominee doesn't have experience as a tax cheat, I'm definitely voting "no."

Senator Reid is right: President Obama could certainly make history by nominating a tax cheat to the Supreme Court. We can only hope.

Obama vs. Obey

President Obama is running into some trouble on Capitol Hill. And believe it or not, it's with members of his own party.

Monday, Democrats unveiled their war spending bill and much to the surprise of the White House, it did not include the $81 million that the president requested to fund the closure of Guantanamo Bay.

Democrats like Congressman David Obey said the funds were removed because the White House has no real plan on what to do with the remaining 241 Gitmo inmates. He told The Washington Times, "I'm not interested in wasting my energy defending a theoretical program."

So to be clear: President Obama signed an executive order to close Gitmo on his second day in office, but on day 106, he still has no plan on how to actually implement it? Great work, Mr. President.

Home Sweet Home?

President Obama isn't the only one having trouble with his own party. It appears the honeymoon between Arlen Specter and the Democrats is already over.

Left-wingers seem to be piling onto the newest member of their party. One blog blasted Senator Specter's appearance on "Meet the Press" saying he "went out of his way to assure us all what a bad Democrat he intends to be."

The National Organization for Women also criticized the senator, suggesting they may support a primary challenger to Specter because they are looking for someone who "actually sees themselves as progressives and supporters of equality and fairness. That may be how Arlen Specter sees himself but that's not how we see him."

Sounds like Democrats are enjoying Senator Specter about as much as the Republicans did for the last 28 years.
