Authorities say 12 people were injured — seven of them critically — in a wreck involving at least four vehicles on a freeway in the San Fernando Valley.

The California Highway Patrol says the vehicles collided at about 1:15 a.m. Wednesday morning on State Route 170 in the Sun Valley area just north of Sherman Way.

All southbound lanes were shut down for more than two hours while the scene was cleared.

Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman Devin Gales says firefighters were called to the scene to treat seven people with critical injuries and five with minor injuries.
