The Coast Guard found a missing boat with two children aboard safely moored Wednesday at an island near Seattle.

Petty Officer Peter Williams at Port Angeles said the family of six decided to stay overnight without telling relatives.

The boat turned up Wednesday morning at Westsound on Orcas Island.

The Coast Guard began searching the San Juan Islands overnight after receiving a report at 11 p.m. Tuesday that the 20-foot boat hadn't come back as scheduled from a day trip.

Authorities were worried because they didn't think the family was equipped to stay on the water overnight.

The boat is owned by a Darrington, Wash., man who was on board with his wife, their daughter and her husband, and two grandchildren.
