A 9-year-old boy told investigators he set a fire that burned down a Dollar General Store in Chattanooga because he was mad at his mother.

No one was hurt in the Tuesday afternoon fire at the store on Hixson Pike.

Fire investigators have charged the boy with aggravated arson and reckless endangerment.

Fire Department spokesman Bruce Garner said in a statement that the boy told firefighters he was mad at his mother, so he walked to rear of the store and set rolls of bathroom tissue on fire.

Store Manager Tammy Laney said she tried unsuccessfully to put the flames out herself. She then got everyone out and called 911.

The Dollar General Store and its contents are a total loss. The store has seven employees.
