White House Insults Britain Again?

Troubled Alliance?

School was in session onboard the White House press charter Tuesday as it traveled to the G20 Summit in London.

According to Telegraph reporter Toby Harnden, White House staffers distributed press kits to members of the media that were supposed to help inform them about their destination, but instead it read more like a children's book, like the description of the U.K. which said it is "slightly smaller than Oregon."

More importantly, Harnden noted that the document isn't going to help improve relations between the U.S. and Great Britain either. It seems that the Obama team has downgraded our view of the country once referred to as our closest ally to "one of the United States' closest allies."

And even the bios included were a bit liberal with the facts: Hillary Clinton's didn't mention that she ran against Mr. Obama for president, but instead says only that she "campaigned for the election of Barack Obama and Joe Biden."

Another brilliant foreign policy move by team Obama. They truly are hitting the reset button on our relations with countries around the world, and that's not a good thing.

High Flying Gibbs

History is being made with a mile-high edition of Liberal Translation. Tuesday, during his briefing on Air Force One, Robert Gibbs offered his scholarly view on President Obama's approach to foreign policy:

ROBERT GIBBS, WHITE HOUSE PRESS SECRETARY: Nobody believes that a change in our relationship means giving anybody all that they want.

LIBERAL TRANSLATION: I have no place to hide up here. Jake Tapper isn't onboard, is he?!

GIBBS: We're looking for a constructive relationship that addresses the issues that we have that are of mutual concern in a way that benefits both countries.

LIBERAL TRANSLATION: We'll talk to anybody. A state dinner for Castro would be nice. I like Cuban food.

GIBBS: I don't think that anybody goes into meetings with another country believing that the best way to change the relationship is give the other side whatever they want.

LIBERAL TRANSLATION: Except maybe Hillary. I hear she wants to negotiate with former Al Qaeda members.

GIBBS: That's really not the intention of the president or this administration.

LIBERAL TRANSLATION: Have we crossed the International Date Line? I'd like to throw in an "April Fool's" right about now.

Bibi Steps Up

In The FOX Nation, Israel's newly elected Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu laid down the gauntlet for President Barack Obama with regard Iran’s nuclear ambitions. He suggested that if the U.S. doesn't prevent Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon, Israel will take matters into its own hands.

Netanyahu told the Atlantic’s Jeffrey Goldberg Tuesday, "When the wide-eyed believer gets hold of the reins of power and the weapons of mass death, then the entire world should start worrying, and that is what is happening in Iran." He added that if Iran obtains nuclear weapons, Western civilization will have failed.

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has called for Israel to be wiped off the map, and earlier this month referred to the country as "cancerous tumor." All of this is happening as the Obama administration is trying to engage with the Iranian mullahs.

Richard Holbrooke, President Obama's special envoy for Afghanistan and Pakistan, allegedly sat down with Iran’s deputy foreign minister Tuesday. According to Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, "They agreed to stay in touch."

Well that's just lovely. Too bad the Iranians dispute Clinton's account of the meeting.

In Good Company

Our Great Moment in Liberal Foreign Policy is brought to you by President Obama and his administration. In a reversal of a key Bush administration policy, the administration is seeking a seat on the United Nations' Human Rights Council.

According to the State Department, "The decision is in keeping with the Obama administration's 'new era of engagement' with other nations to advance American security interests and meet the global challenges of the 21st century."

If Obama and company succeed in their mission, the United States will have the good fortune of engaging with human rights champions such as: Cuba, led by communist strongman Raul Castro, where security forces threaten and beat pro-democracy advocates with impunity; China, led by communist strongman Hu Jintao, and notorious for shipping its citizens off to re-education and forced labor camps; and Saudi Arabia, which according to our very own State Department, employs a squad of religious police that just last year beat a man to death for selling alcohol.

According to former U.N. Ambassador John Bolton, "This is like getting on board the Titanic after its hit the iceberg. This is the theology of engagement at work."

You know, Mr. President, just because you call it the diplomacy of engagement, doesn't mean any of your iron-fisted friends are actually going to engage with you. Best of luck in that snake pit though, that's certainly great company to be keeping.
