CAIRO – Palestinian officials say talks between rival Hamas and Fatah factions in Cairo have broken up without a deal on a national unity government.
They say Egyptian mediators told the sides to go home till the next round.
Wasel Abu Youssef of the Palestine Liberation Front says major issues remain unresolved, including the setup of an interim government — a key condition to reconstructing the Gaza Strip after Israel's recent offensive.
Another unresolved issue is to what extent Hamas would abide by past accords with Israel. Hamas official, Fawzi Barhoum, says Hamas will not agree to "commit" to the accords or recognize Israel.
Fatah's Azzam al-Ahmed says the talks will continue after an Arab summit at the end of March.
