A 9-year-old girl pregnant with twins after allegedly being sexually abused by her stepfather will most likely abort the pregnancy, Agence-France Presse reported.
The Brazilian girl was found to be four month pregnant after she went to the hospital with stomach pains, two Brazilian news Web sites reported.
She is now being cared for by a medical and psychological team at an institute next to her hometown.
"We don't know if she will develop the pregnancy up to the end because of the structure of her body. It is a big risk for her,'' the doctor who confirmed her pregnancy before she was taken to the institute told the Diario de Pernambuco newspaper.
"She doesn't have a pelvis able to support a gestation of twins,'' he said.
Abortion is illegal in Brazil except in cases of rape or if the woman's health is in danger.
