Naming stars after loved-ones has become a popular gift - but now NASA is offering the chance to choose the moniker for part of the International Space Station.

A new module - currently named "Node 3" - will serve as a control tower for robot technology and a giant observation deck.

Astronauts will use it to view planet earth and control a 57-foot robotic arm.

Space fans can suggest a new name online, although the module is unlikely to be called anything too 'far out.'

NASA wants the moniker to "reflect the spirit of exploration and cooperation embodied by the space station."
