Police officers in Chicago found a dead 3-month-old boy in a crowded, filthy apartment on the city's northwest side, authorities said.

The infant was pronounced dead at a hospital Tuesday after officers received a call about a death in the apartment in Chicago's Albany Park neighborhood, police said.

Officers found 10 other children living in the apartment and all were taken to the hospital for evaluation because the space was so dirty it posed a "health hazard," Chicago police spokesman Dan O'Brien said.

The apartment was roach-infested and scattered with food and garbage, police said. An investigation is ongoing.
