Police are questioning the Army husband of a missing Missouri mother and said they suspect foul play in her disappearance.

Army Sgt. Shon Pernice, who recently returned from serving in Iraq as a medic, has reportedly only been speaking with detectives through his lawyer about his teacher wife, 35-year-old Renee Pernice.

Shon Pernice said his wife left home the morning of Jan. 2 between 9 a.m. and 10 a.m. but claims he doesn't remember where she said she was going because he was tired.

Relatives of the couple said they were having marital problems. After initiating divorce proceedings in 2005, the Pernices voluntarily withdrew the filing in 2007 because they reconciled, MyFOXKC.com reported

Another field search was under way Wednesday and extra detectives were assigned to the case, Kansas City Police Capt. Rich Lockhart told FOX News.

Shon Pernice was apparently the last person to see Renee Pernice on Jan. 2. Her father, Rick Pretz, reported her missing after she didn't return phone calls from her parents. Pretz said he last spoke to his daughter about 7 p.m. on New Year's Day.

Her cell phone was found about 12 to 15 miles away from the Pernices' home in an area with no connection to the missing woman, according to police.

The mother of three children was due back at work teaching nursing students at St. Luke's College this week.

She is described as 5-foot-9 and 130 pounds, with blue eyes and shoulder-length brown hair.

Shon Pernice spoke to MyFOX Kansas City over the summer about the stress and trauma he was experiencing after coming home from Iraq. He said Fourth of July fireworks had made him jittery.

"Over there ... you may be blown up and killed, especially just driving around Iraq in a convoy situation," he told the station. "There's people that hate us very much over there."
