A skier is dead after an avalanche inside Utah's Snowbird resort.

A spokeswoman for University Hospital in Salt Lake City says the woman died Sunday after being pulled off Mount Baldy. She was in her 20s.

Searchers initially feared other skiers might have gotten buried. But Sheriff Jim Winder says he's confident the woman was the only victim.

Avalanche deaths are rare at Western resorts. They routinely trigger their own slides to prevent them from occurring naturally.
