The body of a white female was found by a runner over the weekend, but further details about the cause of her death were not released, Lafayette police said.

Police department spokesman Cpl. Paul Mouton said Sunday that investigators could not release any further information about the woman because they were still trying to positively identify her.

The woman's body was discovered around 7:30 a.m. Saturday by a runner participating in the Cajun Country Half Marathon at Acadiana Park.

Detectives are awaiting autopsy results from the Lafayette Parish Coroner's Office, as they still have not determined how long the body was in the woods or how the woman died.

Mouton said foul play is suspected in the woman's death.
