India's prime minister says India and Russia have signed a nuclear deal that is expected to see Russia build four nuclear reactors for power-starved India.

The deal was inked during a meeting between Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and visiting President Dmitry Medvedev of Russia.

Singh says that the deal "marks a new milestone in the history of our cooperation with Russia in the field of nuclear energy."

The deal follows the conclusion of a landmark nuclear deal between the United States and India earlier this year that opened the way for nuclear trade between India and other nations.
