They don't look much different from the cars you see flooding highways from New York to Los Angeles – and someday they might flood those highways, too.

But so far, the cars produced by the appropriately named Miles car company primarily are intended for low-speed additions to institutional fleets, such as the vehicles used by universities and parks departments.

These electric vehicles are being produced right in the United States. The company was founded in 2004 and has its headquarters at the Santa Monica Airport in California.

A high-speed sedan, now in development, is being designed to reach highway speeds of more than 80 mph. Just charge up and go.
