Some Alaska residents will experience a little nonpartisan pain when they vote.

The state is offering flu vaccine shots to voters at precincts in certain cities on Tuesday.

Health officials say its simply a "public health strategy" and not an effort to influence voting in an election year.

The vaccinations will be available at four polling places in Fairbanks. Public health centers in Delta Junction, Bethel, Kenai and Kodiak also will take part in the effort, known as the Vote and Vax project.
