Surgeons at St. Francis Hospital in Wilmington say they recently performed the state's first robotic manor thoracic procedure.

Dr. Paul Davis says the medical team used the DaVinci surgical robot to help make tiny incisions that allowed them to remove an entire section of a patient's lung. The procedure is called a robotic lobectomy.

Davis says the new technology causes less trauma to the chest area. The old method required a seven- or eight-inch incision between the ribs and was much more painful.
