A New York woman has filed a multi-million dollar lawsuit charging that her dead husband’s brain has been missing for more than two years.

In the complaint that was filed at the State Supreme Court in Manhattan, Mozelle Purifoy claims the brain of her husband was illegally removed from his body for medical research after he died in July 2006, Newsday reported Tuesday.

She claims it went missing following an autopsy by the Office of The Suffolk County Medical Examiner on Long Island.

As a result, Purifoy is suing Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York City and its related units for allegedly attempting to acquire the brain without permission, according to the paper.

Purifoy is seeking $4 million in damages for emotional distress. She said that neither she nor her husband, Tom, signed any organ donation card.
