A Cortez man charged with killing and dismembering his father is undergoing a psychiatric evaluation at the state mental hospital after pleading not guilty by reason of insanity.

Jeremiah Berry is charged with second-degree murder. A court hearing that was scheduled for Monday has been postponed until Nov. 18 because the evaluation isn't complete.

Authorities say the 20-year-old Berry shot and stabbed his father, Jack Berry, in February. An arrest warrant affidavit says Jeremiah Berry claimed his father had raped him after telling the son he needed a sex change to become his wife.

Parts of the father's body were found encased in buckets of concrete. The affidavit says Jeremiah Berry also told authorities he fed some body parts to coyotes.
