POMONA, Calif. – A Pomona woman has been arrested for allegedly drowning her 5-year-old son in a motel bathtub then trying to kill herself.
Police say 23-year-old Josie Navarro was arrested Monday night at a motel after the clerk reported that she was trying to commit suicide in one of the rooms.
Sgt. Rick Baker says officers found another person restraining Navarro and believe she tried to kill herself with over-the-counter sleeping pills.
Police found her son, Edgar Manuel Sanchez Jr., underwater and unresponsive in the bathtub.
Baker says Navarro said she wanted to die because of problems in her life, and didn't want to leave her son behind.
The boy's father, who was not present, has been notified.
