Nine people are at a hospital after a car struck a school bus in Lafayette, La., and caught fire.

The bus was carrying 15 elementary students on Monday when it was hit. Officials say a mother and her two children were pulled to safety from the burning car by residents of a nearby apartment complex and taken to a hospital with minor injuries.

Six children on the bus also were taken to a hospital for observation.

It isn't clear what caused the accident, but authorities say none of the injuries appear to be life threatening. The site of the crash was about 60 miles southwest of Baton Rouge.
