Two hikers missing in northeastern Minnesota were identified by authorities Thursday.

Maria Jacenko, 42, and 23-year-old Grace Knezevich, both of Duluth, haven't been seen for about a week.

The Cook County sheriff's office says the women left Ely last Friday on the rugged Kekakabic Trail.

They were supposed to be picked up Monday night at the Gunflint Trail, but they didn't show up.

The Cook and Lake County sheriff's offices and the U.S. Forest Service have conducted extensive air and ground searches, but there has been no sign of the hikers.

The search continues Wednesday along the Lake County section of the trail.

Sheriff's Deputy Lief Lunde tells WCCO-AM that volunteers aren't needed. Most of the searchers are Forest Service employees familiar with working in rough terrain.
