A mohawk haircut has become the signature 'do for the Tampa Bay Devil Rays players and fans. But it got Zachary Sharples in trouble at school.

Twelve-year-old Zachary got his one-inch "Rayhawk" Sunday while the Rays were battling the Chicago White Sox in the American League playoffs.

At school Monday in Palmetto, the seventh-grader was told the haircut violated the dress code, and he was sent to in-school suspension. He and his parents were told the district forbids hairstyles that are a distraction.

His father says the family is proceeding with a planned moved to another school district this weekend, nearer to the Rays' home of St. Petersburg. A district spokeswoman says Zachary's haircut will be OK there.
