Truck Driver Gets Life in Prison for Rape, Murder of 10-Year-Old Girl in Sweden

STOCKHOLM, Sweden – A Swedish court has convicted a truck driver of the rape and murder of a 10-year-old girl and a 31-year-old woman.

The Falu District Court sentenced Anders Eklund to life in prison Monday and ordered him to pay 860,000 kronor (US$122,000) in damages to the victims' families.

Eklund was arrested after the girl disappeared in April in a case that generated headlines in Sweden. He confessed to raping and killing her as well as a 31-year-old woman eight years ago.

The court also found him guilty of attempting to rape another woman in 2006 and for possessing child pornography.

Eklund's lawyer Leif Silbersky told news agency TT he won't appeal.
