Investigators looking for the remains of three Mafia victims have unearthed bones — but they're not from a human.

The New York City medical examiner has determined the bones are those of a dog.

The FBI is scheduled to resume digging Monday at the East Farmingdale site on Long Island, just outside New York City.

According to the newspaper Newsday, an informant recently told authorities that Carmine Gargano Jr. was buried at the site, along with two Colombo crime family members believed to have been killed in underworld disputes in the 1990s.

The 21-year-old Gargano disappeared in 1994. Authorities were told he was killed in a revenge plot targeting his cousin.
