Authorities are investigating the death of a Hudson Valley woman who was struck by a police car while crossing a road to get a snack.

Town of Montgomery police say 19-year-old Tiffany Weddle was crossing Orange County's Route 208 to get to a convenience store Sunday night when she was hit by an unmarked cruiser driven by Maybrook Police Officer John Bennett.

Weddle died at St. Luke's Cornwall Hospital.

Police say Bennett was responding to a report of a fight when the accident occurred.

Officials say Bennett is a part-time officer with nearly 20 years' experience with the department. Montgomery police say rainy weather may have been a factor in the accident.

State police and Montgomery police are investigating.
