"Excuse me, your teddy bear is ringing."
That could be the future as Japanese phone company Wellcom unveiled a prototype mobile last month in the shape of a cuddly brown teddy bear.
Three prototypes of the Kuma or bear phone — named Andy, Bill and Charlie — were on view at the Good Design Expo 2008 in Tokyo, where Wellcom officials demonstrated the phone's features.
Up to four speed dial numbers can be stored in the furry phone, which is powered by two AA batteries, according to Japanese reports. It can run for 2 hours continuously and has 700 minutes of standby time and stores a SIM card used to make the calls.
CScout Japan reports the bear can answer calls with a squeeze of the tail and carries a $500 price tag.
