A West Palm Beach doctor accused of illegally distributing prescription drugs has been ordered held on $2.7 million bail.

Palm Beach County sheriff's officials say Dr. Sergio Rodriguez faces charges of racketeering and trafficking in oxycodone, alprazolam and methadone. They say his arrest Wednesday was the culmination of an 8-month undercover investigation.

Authorities also are investigating connections between prescriptions written by Rodriguez and several overdose deaths. They Rodriguez may also have provided prescriptions in exchange for sex.

The doctor's attorney says he will plead not guilty.

Authorities say Rodriguez had a pediatric office but also saw adult patients and prescribed the drugs without examining them.
