A hostage standoff sparked during an attempted armed robbery at a Florida Office Depot ended peacefully Tuesday morning, but the thieves were still at large.
Police in West Melbourne, on Florida's central Atlantic coast, said they rescued three Office Depot workers after two armed robbers jumped them when they opened their store.
West Melbourne police Cmdr. Steve Wilkinson said one worker had a minor injury after being cut with a knife wielded by one of the bandits. The other thief had a gun, but no one was shot.
Wilkinson said a SWAT team is in the store trying to find the robbers. When officers went into the building and rescued the workers from the manager's office, no one else was there. The two suspects were described only as a black male with a handgun and a white male with a knife, MyFOX Orlando reported.
It was unclear if the men took any cash or products.
No customers were in the office supplies retailer when the robbery occurred around 6:35 a.m.
West Melbourne is about 30 miles south of Cape Canaveral.
