Police have linked one of the five feet that mysteriously washed up on the shores of British Columbia over the past year to a depressed man who went missing a year ago.

Police sergeant Pierre Lemaitre said Saturday that DNA testing helped to identify the man. He said the man's name is not being made public at the family's request.

The first foot found was a right foot discovered last year on Aug. 20 on Jedidiah Island in the Strait of Georgia.

Four more have been found since then. The most recent, a left foot, was found June 16 south of Vancouver near Ladner.

Police have said there is no evidence of trauma or tool marks on the feet, which appear to have been naturally separated from bodies.
