EUGENE, Ore. – A federal grand jury indicted two men accused of burning the image of a cross and the letters KKK into the lawn in front of a Medford family's home.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Bud Fitzgerald said Wednesday that David Moss and Devin Klausegger of Medford are charged with conspiracy to commit a hate crime, interfering with the housing rights of another person and conspiring to interfere with human rights.
The indictment alleges that Moss poured flammable liquid in the intended shape and Klausegger handed him a small explosive device.
Jonathan and Sol Whyte, a mixed-race couple with two daughters, were the target of the crime May 26. Jonathan Whyte moved from Jamaica in 2000, and the family had been living in the house since January.
