A police officer in central Florida police department was fired Wednesday amid charges that he stripped, fondled and spanked a woman against her will.
The termination of Ocoee police Sgt. Thomas Maroney goes into effect Wednesday. He was arrested last week and released on bond.
In a letter to Maroney obtained by the Orlando Sentinel, Police Chief Steven Goclon that his behavior "reflects so poorly upon you and the department that it severely affects your ability to perform your duties as a police officer, let alone as a sergeant."
Maroney's alleged victim, an ex-police intern, told authorities they were at a party when he asked her for oral sex, pulled down her pants, touched her genitals, pinned her across his legs and spanked her bare backside with his hand — then a leather belt.
The termination letter says Maroney admitted he was drunk and "behaved poorly."
