An Indiana man was caught after allegedly trying to rob a bar with a cheese grater.

James Plante Jr., 39, was charged Monday with felonious robbery and attempted robbery after trying to hold up a Hammond, Ind., bar on Sunday.

Police said Plante demanded money from the bartender of the Hoosier Buddy Tavern at around 1:30 a.m. Sunday by putting the cheese grater under his shirt as if he had a gun, according to the Times of Munster, Ind.

A bar patron realized he didn't have a weapon, so he used a bar stool to foil the robbery, the paper said.

Minutes later, Plante was able to use the grater-as-gun ruse to rob a nearby Speedway gas station, according to court papers cited by the Times of Munster.
