More than 70 children and 15 staffers at a YMCA camp have fallen ill with flu-like symptoms, forcing officials to end the camp early and cancel another session to disinfect the campground on the western edge of Rocky Mountain National Park.

YMCA spokeswoman Lori Van Horn says the children were being sent home from Camp Chief Ouray Wednesday, a day after campers and staff began showing symptoms of the norovirus.

The gastrointestinal virus is easily spread in places where people are living in close quarters, such as nursing homes and summer camps. A similar outbreak happened at the camp in 2005.

Van Horn says camp should be ready for the camp session that begins June 29.
