Italian police have arrested dozens of suspected mobsters in the Naples area in a series of nighttime raids.

Police say 48 people have been arrested in Naples suburbs and nearby towns. They say the arrests Friday dealt a serious blow to a powerful Camorra clan and that they seized assets worth millions of dollars.

The Camorra is the regional equivalent of the Sicilian Mafia. It has bloodied the streets in and around Naples for decades. Turf wars periodically break out among rival clans.

The suspects have been arrested on charges including criminal association, murder and drug trafficking.
