More than eight million women suffer from osteoporosis.

A new nationwide survey conducted by Harris Interactive found that even women who have the chronic condition aren’t doing enough to maintain their health. The study was done on 1,000 women with pre-menopausal osteoporosis.

According to the study 69 percent of those women maintain their external appearance and 43 percent do weight-bearing exercises.

The American Women’s Medical Association and Dr. Pamela Peeke, author of the bestselling book, Fit to Live, have joined forces to launch Strong to the Bone, a nationwide awareness campaign to encourage women to take steps to help avoid fracture.

For more information about the campaign and to do a simple test to see if you are at risk for the disease, log on to strongtothebone.com.
