ANCHORAGE, Alaska – He’s accused of murdering two people and injuring three others in a series of machete and gun attacks.
Now it appears an Alaskan man will claim he was insane.
In court on behalf of Christopher Erin Rogers Jr., public defender Matt Phillips told District Court Judge John Wolfe Friday he intended to plead insanity in the murder cases and requested to delay two unrelated misdemeanor cases until after the murder cases were resolved, the Mat-Su Valley Frontiersman reported.
Rogers, 28, is accused of murdering his father, Christopher Erin Rogers Sr., and attempting to murder his father’s fiancé, Elann Moren, with a machete Dec. 2 while they slept in Rogers Sr.’s Palmer home, according to the Frontiersman.
Prosecutors said Rogers then traveled to Anchorage, where he shot and killed Jason Wenger, 27, and wounded two others.
Cases against him have been opened in Anchorage, where he faces 10 felony counts, including murder, and in Palmer, where he faces eight counts, also including murder.
Rogers’ murder trial is set to start July 29, according to the paper.
