They dumped buckets of “crap” on fellow fraternity members.
Now members of The University of Wisconsin’s Sigma Phi Epsilon Chapter could be in over their heads.
Under investigation by the university’s dean of students and the Interfraternity Council, fraternity president Mike Miesen told The Badger Herald that the incident did occur but denied it had anything to do with hazing, according to UWire.com. “We are a non-hazing fraternity — Sigma Phi Epsilon doesn’t haze,” he said.
One eye witness claimed the buckets were filled with “vomit (and) urine with large brown chunks that could have been feces,” and Sophomore Sigma Phi Epsilon member Patrick Kurkiewicz said in his semester, “they put all sorts of crap in,” the Web site reported.
Rather than a hazing ritual however, Kurkiewicz told UWire the event is a tradition in which pledges are actually allowed to dump buckets of whatever they want on older fraternity members.
Still, Miesen said, “the leadership including myself do not condone this sort of action,” adding it “will never happen again,” UWire reported.
The incident comes on the heels of an alleged hazing “hell night” at Tulane University that left two pledges severely burned and ten Pi Kappa Alpha members facing felony charges.
UW Associate Dean of Students Kevin Helmkamp said the dean’s office hopes to conclude its investigation within the week, telling UWire, “We’ll be determining if there was any misconduct on an individual or organizational level.”
Possible punishments range from monetary fines to suspension and even expulsion, according to the Web site.
