The Tarpon Springs, Fla., Police Department responded Thursday to a suicide at the home of the mother of D.C. Madam Deborah Jeane Palfrey.
Police could not yet confirm that Palfrey is the victim, but detectives said they believe it to be her. The decedent is a white female in her early 50s. Palfrey, 52, was reportedly staying at the mobile home of her mother Blanche, police said.
A statement from police said the deceased was found in a small storage shed located on the West side of the mobile home. "Hand-written notes were found on scene that describes the victim's intention to take her life, and foul play does not appear to be involved," said Capt. Jeffrey P. Young.
Pinellas County Medical Examiners will determine the cause of death, and are working alongside the FBI.
Palfrey was convicted last month of running a high-end prostitution ring in Washington, D.C., that catered to the city's political elite. Louisiana Sen. David Vitter and former deputy secretary of state Randall L. Tobias were both tied to the ring by investigators.
Palfrey had repeatedly denied the escort service engaged in prostitution, saying that if any of the women engaged in sex acts for money, they did so without her knowledge.
