Washington state public health officials are trying to track down at least 2,000 people who may have been exposed to the measles at a church event in March, according to the Seattle Post-Intelligencer.
Three members of a Grant County family who attended the Generation Church Conference in Kirkland, Wash., in late March have contracted the measles, according to the newspaper.
However, the state Health Department is not sure whether the first member of the family to become ill contracted the disease at the conference or somewhere else, the Intelligencer writes.
There are five other suspected measles cases in the family, but they are still unconfirmed.
Measles is a highly contagious disease. Some of its symptoms are high fever, a hacking cough, sore throat and a rash. It is preventable. The measles vaccination shot is usually given during early childhood. However if someone who never received the vaccination is exposed, a shot of immune globulin (IG) should thwart the onset of the disease.
