Three members of a Los Angeles-area family are dead, including a 5-year-old boy, after being shot in what police are calling a murder-suicide.

Another family member was wounded but survived the attack.

Monday night's bloodshed came some eight hours after Torrance police had served a man with a restraining order taken out by his wife, Officer Dave Crespin said.

The man returned to the home on 230th Street, shot his 5-year-old son, his wife and mother-in-law, then himself.

The wife and her mother survived and were taken to a hospital. The older woman later died.

As of early Tuesday, police had not released the names of the gunman or the victims.
