Explosions Reported in Capital of East African Nation of Burundi, Vice President Says

NAIROBI, Kenya – Burundi's vice president said there have been reports of explosions in the East African country's capital city of Bujumbura.

Yves Sahiguvu, who is in Nairobi for the swearing-in of Kenya's prime minister, said the explosions have been taking place in the north and south of Burundi's capital.

He could not immediately provide details on casualties from the explosions Thursday, but said he received the information after calling Bujumbura.
