Coast Guard crews are searching the waters off the coast of Maine for the pilot of a small plane that crashed into the ocean.

The Coast Guard says it got a report of a plane with one person aboard crashing into Belfast Bay Sunday evening. Coast Guard Petty Officer Connie Terrell identified the pilot as 61-year-old Doug Lowe of Lincolnville.

Terrell said an oil slick and debris matching the description of the plane were located about a mile offshore.

A 25-foot Coast Guard boat and a Maine Marine Patrol vessel were searching Monday with assistance from police and fire agencies.
