A state road crew has found the bodies of two people along Interstate 75 in southeastern Michigan and investigators believe they may have been murdered.

The Department of Transportation crew discovered the bodies Tuesday under trees in Independence Township, 30 miles north of Detroit, WXYZ-TV reports.

Oakland County Undersheriff Michael McCabe told The Detroit News the bodies were a few feet from traffic lanes.

Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard told WXYZ-TV that preliminary reports indicate that the bodies are those of two white men, one who was shot in the head and the other who had a phone cord wrapped around his neck.

They appeared to have been dumped along the highway a "couple months" ago, he said.
