Iraqi police say a woman homicide bomber has killed three people and wounded 12 in an attack near a bus terminal northeast of Baghdad.

A senior police officer says the attack occurred Wednesday morning in a commercial area of Balad Ruz in the Diyala province. The officer spoke on condition of anonymity because he is not allowed to release the information.

Extremists are making greater use of women as homicide bombers. Explosive belts are easier to conceal under women's clothing and they are often not treated with the same suspicion as men.
