An English midwife who failed to realize the baby was dead handed over the stillborn to the mother, the Daily Mail reported.

Elizabeth Reader told an inquiry this week of the moment her stillborn daughter Scarlet was placed on her chest. The mistake followed a string of errors made by two midwives at Conquest Hospital in St Leonards, East Sussex, England, during the delivery of Reader's baby, according to the report.

According to testimony, Sandra Bickers and Peter Davies, both 45, ignored instructions from a senior doctor regarding Reader's high-risk labor and later on Davies failed to realize baby Scarlet had turned blue. As a result, it was too late by the time medics were called to resuscitate the child, it is reported.
