A report published Tuesday by the German parliamentary commissioner claims the country’s soldiers are overweight and most of them smoke too much, the Earth Times reports.

The annual report on the state of Germany’s military also says military personnel do not get enough exercise. According to the commissioner’s report, the percentage of overweight soldiers is higher than that of the German civilian population, the Earth Times reports.

"Male and female soldiers are too fat, partake little in sports and pay too little attention to what they eat," Reinhold Robbe said in the official report, the Earth Times reports.

Robbe called the findings shocking, reporting 40 percent of soldiers are overweight and 70 percent reportedly smoke. The report finds 20 percent do not engage in any sports at all, the Earth Times reports.
