Former Beauty Queen Accused of Torturing Boyfriend Can Move Out of State, Judge Says

TUCSON, Ariz. – A judge on Tuesday gave a former beauty queen accused of kidnapping and torturing her ex-boyfriend permission to move out of state.

Superior Court Judge Richard Nichols told Kumari Fulbright she can move to Texas while awaiting trial as long as she keeps in regular contact with the county's Pretrial Services agency.

The decision was reported on the Web sites of the Arizona Daily Star and the Tucson Citizen.

Fulbright, who competed for the Miss Arizona title in 2005 and 2006, has been indicted on charges of kidnapping, aggravated robbery, armed robbery and aggravated assault.

Fulbright and three men are accused of tying up a 24-year-old man with plastic cable and duct tape Dec. 8 and holding him captive at two Tucson residences, according to court documents.

Court documents say the four suspects pointed pistols at the man, threatened his life and stole his wallet, cell phone, briefcase and $500 to $600 in cash.

Fulbright's attorney had told Nichols at Fulbright's last hearing that she wanted to move to Texas because her parents live in Dallas and the only ties she has to Tucson are law school and her criminal case.

Fulbright has been suspended from the University of Arizona.
