Six Chicago police officers working on a routine shift ran into a burning building early Thursday and saved several residents trapped inside.
One officer carried out a 4-year-old girl from the fire that started around 2:30 a.m. in a fifth-floor apartment of a 7-story building.
The officers were on patrol in the area when they saw the fire. Entering the building without protective gear, the officers say they were just doing their job.
There were no life-threatening injuries. Two people went to Northwestern Memorial Hospital for minor smoke inhalation.
