Two tanker trucks, stolen this week from a construction company lot in northern Virginia, were recovered overnight Friday, the Prince William County Police Department said Saturday.

Tips from witnesses led authorities to the tankers, which were found separately in Maryland.

Both trucks had been drained of their diesel fuel, and police think the fuel theft was the motive behind the tanker thefts.

Police still are searching for suspects in the thefts and are offering rewards of up to $1,000 for information leading arrests and convictions. Anyone with information is encouraged to call 866-411-TIPS, and calls can remain anonymous.
