Man, 80, Charged With Murdering Sister's Boyfriend After Argument

WRIGHTSVILLE, Ga. – An 80-year-old man has been charged with murder after authorities say he shot a man to death.

Charlie David Turner, of Montezuma, was arrested after the Tuesday shooting and is being held at the Johnson County jail, said Greg Harvey, special agent in charge of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation's Eastman office.

Turner was visiting his sister and her live-in boyfriend, Cecil Conway, at a home in Wrightsville around 3 p.m. Tuesday when an argument began, Harvey said.

Turner shot Conway, 52, two or three times with what authorities believe was a .22-caliber revolver, Harvey said.

Conway was pronounced dead at the scene.

Johnson County Sheriff Rusty Oxford said Turner was arrested without incident and the case remains under investigation.

Authorities are not sure exactly what the men were fighting about, Harvey said, adding that Turner owned his sister's house.

"There was no sign of any other weapon being involved," Oxford said.

It is unusual for someone Turner's age to be facing a murder charge, said Craig Fraser, district attorney for the Dublin Judicial Circuit.

But if indicted, Turner will go through the judicial system just like anyone else, Fraser said.

"Murder is murder," he said. "There is no age limit."

Wrightsville is about 120 miles southeast of Atlanta.
